News: 3 vandals docked over Ikeja Electric’s transformer


Three suspected vandals Kabiru Musa, Umaru Muhammed and Rayyali Ibrahim, have been arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court sitting at Agbowa, for allegedly damaging Ikeja Electricity Plc, Transformer.

Musa 20, Muhammed 25 and Ibrahim 23, are facing a three count charge of conspiracy, willful damage and theft, preferred against them by the police. 

The prosecutor Inspector Isaac Aminu, told the court that the defendants conspired amongst themselves to commit the alleged offences. 

He said the trio willfully and unlawfully interfered with the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company’s Electric Transformer by disconnecting its Step-Down cable and Up- Riser cable. 

Aminu said the defendants committed the offences on July 21, 2018, at about 12 am, at Electric- co operative Estate, off Igbe road, at NEPA Coop Estate in Ijede Ikorodu. 

The defendants stole 24 meters of electric transformer armoured cable valued N65, 000, property of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company,” the prosecutor said. 

According to him, the offence committed his punishable under sections 411, 340 and 280 (2) (a) of the criminal laws of Lagos state 2015. However the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. 

The Magistrate Mr A. O Ogbe granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety each in like sum. 

He said the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government and address of the surety to be verified. 

Ogbe also ordered that the defendants should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons and adjourned the case to September 20, for mention.
